Consider this…
Young people can live a clean life by obeying Your word.
Treat me with kindness, Lord, so that I may live and do what You say. Open
my mind and let me discover the wonders of Your Law.
Psalm 119:9, 17-18 |

Curriculum and Assessment
Curriculum
development is an ongoing process. The Catholic schools follow the state
schedule for curriculum and textbook adoption. Teachers are provided with copies
of curriculum guides appropriate to the courses of study and grades that they
teach, and they are encouraged to be familiar with the competencies and
objectives that are expected of the grades which precede and follow their own.
Parents are encouraged to take an interactive role in their child's education by
familiarizing themselves with the material that will be covered in their child's
grade, the concepts the student will be expected to master, and the
instructional materials that will be used.

Assessment
is an important component of the education program and serves as verification
for student learning. Teachers are encouraged to use a variety of ongoing
assessment techniques to evaluate student comprehension, progress, and
assimilation of information presented in the classroom. Standardized testing is
conducted annually in specific grades as benchmarks of student performance, and
the archdiocese outlines specific guidelines for this process. Currently, our
system uses the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills for grades 3,
5, and 8. The school provides a student's individual test scores to the
student's parents in conference, and the school may provide its aggregate
standardized test scores to parents, but the Catholic Schools Office does not
permit the scores of individual schools to be released to the general public.
The Catholic Schools Office publishes the average standardized test scores for
all schools in the system. |
