Catholic Schools Office
To fulfill its mission, the Catholic Schools Office serves the Church by ministering to the needs of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, their employees, families and students.  The Catholic Schools Office is staffed by the superintendent of schools, the assistant superintendent of schools, a secretary to the superintendent, a secretary to the assistant superintendent and a secretary/receptionist.

 

The Catholic Schools Office is located in the Catholic Center, the main offices for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, at:

Role of the Superintendent of Catholic Schools
The superintendent of Catholic schools is appointed by the archbishop and supervises operation of the archdiocesan Catholic schools.  The superintendent oversees the formulation of and implements school policies and procedures and oversees all services and communications of the Catholic Schools Office.  In addition, the superintendent coordinates with the pastor in supervising each school's principal, oversees faculty hiring, and manages the school budgetary process.  The superintendent is supervised by the executive director of the Pastoral Ministries Division. The superintendent is liaison to the Archdiocesan School Advisory Council. 

 

Role of the Catholic Schools Office
The primary responsibilities of the Catholic Schools Office include, but are not limited to: 

  • Reinforcing the spirituality of the Catholic schools by upholding the teachings of the Church and by ensuring that all faculty comply with certification requirements for the Formation for Christian Service certification. 

  • Coordinating recruitment of school faculty and administrators. 

  • Processing faculty applicants and licensure requirements.

  • Ensuring that files on licensed personnel are current and comply with the requirements of the State Department of Education, North Central Association, and the archdiocese.
  • Centralizing communications to ensure that pastors, principals and school personnel are informed about laws and policies binding upon Catholic schools, including accreditation, school standards, health and safety codes, etc.
  • Scheduling and coordinating arrangements for professional and spiritual in-services for ongoing professional development of faculty, administration and school office staff. 
  • Coordinating and implementing system-wide development and marketing activities. 
  • Developing curriculum based on the state adoption schedule. 
  • Formulating and implementing policies that adhere to state and archdiocesan requirements. 
  • Maintaining archives of historical information about the schools and faculty files. 
  • Tracking statistical information about the schools, including NCEA reports, enrollment trends, budgetary information and testing data. 
Ongoing Projects and Communications
  • The Catholic Schools Office provides many services to the community and the schools of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.  It provides information to the public about the philosophy and mission of Catholic education in general and the schools in particular, and it serves as a contact for state accreditation and licensing issues. 
  • Articles about Catholic school events and activities are written for the monthly People of God, which is distributed to all parishes throughout the archdiocese. 
  • The Catholic Schools Office sponsors, oversees or assists in planning and coordinating numerous projects, which include: 
  • Archbishop's School Fund Dinner annual fund-raiser (October)
  • Catholic Schools Week annual celebration (January)
  • Legislation Day at the State Capitol (January)
  • "Character Counts!" Recognition Dinner for Catholic Schools (April)
  • Archdiocesan Catholic Faith Challenge Bowl (May)
  • Professional in-services for faculty and administrators
  • Catholic school secretaries spiritual retreat and professional in-service
